Phi Phong, a Vietnamese film project with Nguyễn Duy Thành as choreographer and movement consultant

Phí Phông

A Vietnamese horror film directed by Đỗ Quốc Trung, inspired by the folk legend of Phí Phông. Nguyễn Duy Thành contributed movement choreography for the film’s ritual and possession sequences.

First Date

First Dates is an improvised, experimental, and site responsive performance created for an outdoor festival context. The work was presented at DANSAND! Festival in Oostende, Belgium, in 2025, with Pak Yan Lau and Bùi Ngọc Quân.

A contemporary Hip Hop theatre work choreographed by Bùi Ngọc Quân, produced by H2Q Dance Company and Nguyen Hai Yen/ Red Team. Premiered in Ho Chi Minh City and later presented in Hanoi and Penang, the work features Nguyễn Duy Thành as performer. Built around the pulse of the heartbeat, 129BPM asks how we live together.

Everything That Happened and Would Happen

An intermedia work by Heiner Goebbels exploring Europe since the outbreak of World War I through live music, performance, sound, movement, image, and moving image. Premiered in Manchester in 2018, the work later toured to New York, Bochum, Saint Petersburg, Budapest, Salzburg, Taipei, and Paris, with Nguyễn Duy Thành as performer.

Shadow of Puppets

A theatre work written by Vũ Hoàng Hoa and directed by NSND Tạ Tuấn Minh for the Vietnam National Drama Theatre, with choreography by Nguyễn Duy Thành. Using puppets, shadow puppetry, and movement, the work explores love, identity, and the hidden conflicts between the self one performs and the self one tries to protect.

A performance presented in Beijing for the 30th anniversary of the friendship and cooperation between Hanoi and Beijing.

Method

A contemporary dance work choreographed by Ross McCormack and first produced by H2Q Art in 2019, with Nguyễn Duy Thành as performer. Bringing together dancers from different movement backgrounds, the work explores the body through overlapping spaces, physical methods, and layered choreographic situations.

A contemporary dance work by Trần Ly Ly, presented in 2016 as part of the Europe Meets Asia in Contemporary Dance Festival. The work explores inner conflict, gender identity, and the desire to live as oneself, with Nguyễn Duy Thành as performer.

A dance work by Arco Renz / Kobalt Works, bringing classical ballet and hip hop street dance into dialogue. Created in Hanoi in 2014, the work later toured Belgium, Germany, the Netherlands, and Switzerland, with Nguyễn Duy Thành as performer.

Zen

A contemporary dance work by Trần Ly Ly, with music by Mạnh Tiến and Nguyễn Duy Thành as performer. Bringing the spirit of meditation into contemporary dance, the work uses sound, stillness, and sculptural movement to open a quiet reflection on the human condition.
